I was really excited to have our first stop on our USA trip be Yosemite. It is one of my favorite places. We made it to Mariposa grove by mid afternoon and were able to catch a tour of the grove right away. It is always awe inspiring to see these beautiful and massive trees.
It is also incredible to be staying at the Ahwahnee Hotel. This hotel is old, majestic, and I love it. I was so shocked to see what Yosemite looks like without all the summer crowds. There are actually parking spots along side of roads, and parking spots in the lots. There is currently a fire raging on the back side of Half Dome, not affecting us here in the valley except there are three or four rescue helicopters flying to and from the meadow next to the hotel, bringing in evacuated campers and hikers from the high country. Don't really smell any kind of smoke since the wind, as of right now, is carrying the fire and smoke away from the valley.
Ya for Yosemite! A perfect 1st stop spot for you. I bet it is so great there in September when it's still warm and less crowds.
